GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – The Gaza-based Palestinian minister of public works and housing and the ambassador of Turkey to Palestine Mustafa Sarnic on Monday laid the cornerstone of a project to temporarily accommodate 1,000 displaced families in Shujaiyya neighborhood in Gaza City.

The project will be funded by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency TIKA. President of TIKA Serdar Cam was present at the ceremony.

After thanking the government and people of Turkey, al-Hasayna said that 1,000 temporary houses would be installed in conformity with the best standards.

“Such a model Gaza has never seen before,” he added, noting that all the needed infrastructure will be prepared before installing the temporary houses.

Turkish ambassador Mustafa Sarnic delivered a short speech during the ceremony urging all “free people of the world to set real borders for the state of Palestine and completely end the siege imposed on Gaza.”
