Rowan, the teenage daughter of Palestinian Colonel Dr. Youssef Yunis who has been imprisoned by Hamas for two years, recently sent letters to
Prime Minister Hamdallah , Hamas Chief Khaled Mashaal and local Hamas leader of Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, appealing for the release of her father.
Her father, Colonel Dr. Youssef Younis , has been imprisoned by Hamas for the past two years for having contact with Palestinian officials in Ramallah and Egypt. This is part of Hamas restrictions on Palestinian officers and elected officials and an attempt to intensify Hamas’ control of Gaza. The laws used to imprison Colonel Younis were written by PLO and designed to be used against spies colluding with Israel and include ‘contact with the enemy’ .
By imprisoning Colonel Younis Hamas has declared officers and officials of the Palestinian government to be the enemy.
Rowan’s heartbreaking letter explains her home is only 500 metres from the prison yet she is not allowed to see or hug him and she misses him dearly.
