Israeli Occupation Forces Shoot, Murder 21 Year Old Palestinian Muhammad Ahmad Alawneh

JENIN (Ma’an) — Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man during clashes that broke out following an Israeli raid into the town of Birqin west of Jenin in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday morning.Muhammad Ahmad Alawneh, 21, was shot with a live bullet in his chest.He was taken to a hospital for treatment where he underwent surgery, but later succumbed to his wounds, medical sources told Ma’an.Alawneh is the 16th Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces this year.During the clashes, Israeli forces fired tear-gas canisters and stun grenades, as well as live rounds.Sources added that Israeli forces detained journalist Muhammad Ali Atiq during the raid, which was one of many carried out across the occupied West Bank overnight.An Israeli army spokeswoman said that 20 Palestinians in total were detained.She confirmed the arrest in Birqin, but said that Alawneh had been injured by Israeli border police.An Israeli police spokesperson could not be reached for comment.A military source told Israeli public radio that “the army and border guards carried out an operation in the village to arrest wanted Palestinians.”Stones and Molotov cocktails were thrown and tires were burned,” and “forces used riot-dispersal means,” including tear gas and rubber-coated bullets against the stone-throwers.”The sources claimed that no live ammunition was used.Since the beginning of 2014, Israeli forces have injured an average of 35 Palestinians every week.Israeli settlers, including those living in occupied East Jerusalem, have carried out a further two weekly attacks on Palestinians, and an average of four incidents of damage to Palestinian property every week.AFP contributed to this report.
