Israeli Occupation Orders Palestinians To Halt Work On EU Funded Water Tanks (Water Apartheid)

HEBRON, August 9, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli forces ordered the village council of Khellet al-Mayyeh, a locale to the east of Yatta, south of Hebron, to stop the construction work on two water tanks funded by the European Union, Sunday reported to a local activist.

Coordinator of the popular committee against the wall and settlements, Rateb Jabour, told WAFA that soldiers handed head the of Yatta village council, Khaled Abu Humaid, a notice ordering them to stop the construction works on two 1700 cubic meters water tanks. The order cited ‘unpermitted construction’ as a pretext.

Meanwhile, soldiers photographed a number of water wells belonging to several locals in the southern part of the locale. The same soldiers photographed sheds, tents, and other water wells in the village of Umm al-Khair to the east of Yatta.

Issuance of construction permits for Palestinians living in Area C of the West Bank, under full Israeli jurisdiction, is strictly limited, forcing Palestinians residing in such areas to embark on construction without obtaining a permit.

Humanitarian and legal bodies and institutions including the United Nations, OCHA and B’Tselem confirm that the planning policies applied by Israel in Area C and East Jerusalem discriminate against Palestinians, making it extremely difficult for them to obtain building permits.

“As a result, many Palestinians build without permits to meet their housing needs and risk having their structures demolished. Palestinians must have the opportunity to participate in a fair and equitable planning system that ensures their needs are met,” OCHA reports.

Israeli Occupation Forces Order Demolition of Palestinian Water Reservoir And Home in Hebron

HEBRON, May 26, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli forces handed Tuesday two local residents of al-Kom locality and Idhna town to the southwest and west of Hebron respectively orders to demolish their properties, said local municipal sources.

Sources from Al-Yasiriya Municipality said that an Israeli army force and ‘Civil Administration’ officers broke into al-Kom locality and handed Mohammad al-Rjoub, a local resident, a notice  indicating their intent to demolish a water reservoir he owns in Qusin area.

This was not the first time al-Rjoub was handed a notice to demolish his property; this is the second time he receives such notice to demolish his water cistern.

Meanwhile, forces broke into Wadi al-Naqiya (al-Naqiya valley) in the western section of Idhna, where they handed ‘Adnan al-Batan a notice notifying him of their intention to demolish his house purportedly for building without license, WAFA correspondent reported sources from Idhna Municipality as saying.

The home slated for demolition occupies a 130-square-meters area and has been populated since 2009.

Mayor of Idhna ‘Abdul-Fattah Islaimya was reported as saying that these Israeli practices are intended to displace local Palestinians from their homes.

He noted that the locality of Wadi-al-Naqiya has been populated by Palestinians for several decades. It is connected to municipal utility services and has access to other municipal services.

Issuance of construction permits for Palestinians living in Area C, under full Israeli administrative and military control, is strictly limited, forcing Palestinians residing in such areas to embark on construction without obtaining a permit to provide a shelter for themselves and their families, risking in the process having their homes demolished.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), between December 30, 2014 and January 12, 2015, the Israeli authorities demolished 27 Palestinian structures in Area C of the West Bank and five in East Jerusalem, in addition to two self demolition incidents, due to lack of Israeli-issued building permits.

Al-Maqdisi Institute reported that between the years 2000 and 2014, the Israeli authorities demolished around 1,342 buildings in East Jerusalem (the areas annexed by Israel in 1967), which has resulted in the displacement of approximately 5,760 people.

Data also showed an increase in the cases of residents being forced to demolish their own houses: 340 people were forced to demolish their own homes during the period 2000-2014; the highest rate of self-demolition was recorded in 2010 with 70 demolitions and 49 in 2009.

Many families are forced to demolish their homes with their own hands to avoid the high cost of paying for Israeli government bulldozers.

Israeli Occupation Places Land Mines Around Palestinian Water Spring, Deprives Shepherds of Main Water Source

HEBRON, May 7, 2015  (WAFA)– Israeli forces Thursday planted explosive mines and placed a barbered wire around a water spring in Um Lasfeh area to the south of Hebron, depriving locals of a main water source  used by  shepherds for grazing purposes, said a local activist.

Coordinator of the anti wall and settlement national committee, Rateb Jabour, informed WAFA that Israeli forces planted mines and placed a 250-square-meter long barbered wire around the spring, preventing locals’ access to  it.

He called on all relevant sides to intervene and protect the locals from Israel’s ‘arrogant’ measures, which he stressed, aim to force Palestinians out of their land in order to hand it over to illegal settlers.

Israeli Occupation To Demolish Palestinian Water Wells in Hebron

HEBRON, April 29, 2015 (WAFA) – The Israeli authorities Wednesday notified local residents of Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, of their intention to demolish a number of water wells used by locals for drinking and irrigation in the area, according to local sources.

Coordinator of the Anti-Settlement Committee in Hebron, Rateb Jabour, said an army force accompanied by staff from the Israeli Civil Administration broke into eastern part of Yatta town, and handed local residents notices informing them about their intent to demolish the water wells.

The wells were built with funding from the Ministry of Agriculture and Action Against Hunger Association to help meet the needs of locals who suffer from water scarcity in that area, particularly during the summer time. Locals depend on these wells to provide them with drinking water, and  for crops’ irrigation.

Masafer Yatta, a collection of almost 19 hamlets, relies heavily on animal husbandry as the main source of livelihood. Located in Area C of the West Bank under full Israeli administrative and military control, the village has been subject to repeated Israeli violations by settlers and army soldiers targeting their main source of living, livestock.

The congregation relies heavily on animal husbandry as the main source of livelihood, and has been a frequent target for recurrent Israeli assaults.

Israeli violations against the area include demolition of animal barns, homes and residential structures. It is located in Area C of the West Bank, under tight Israeli control, and issuance of construction permits by Israel in the area is strictly limited.

JENIN, March 24, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Tuesday demolished a water cistern, uprooted olive trees and handed two demolition orders in Ta‘annak village to the west of Jenin and al-Kom locality to the southwest of Hebron.

Escorting a bulldozer, large Israeli troops, consisting of at least 10 vehicles, raided Ta‘annak, where they proceeded to demolish a 50-meter-deep water cistern that is used to provide local farmers in this village as well as Rummana, Zboba, Silat al-Harithiya and al-Yamoun with water for irrigation, said ‘Abdul-Rahman Zyoud, a local farmer and owner of the water cistern.

Zyoud added that forces also demolished a retaining wall and uprooted olive trees in Marj Ibn ‘Amer area.

Meanwhile in Hebron, forces handed demolition orders to two Palestinians who own two houses and water cistern in al-Kom locality.

According to Isma‘il Ahmad, a local resident, forces handed ‘Arafat and Ahmad al-Rjoub orders to demolish their houses. Another local identified as Muhammad al-Rjoub was handed an order to demolish his water cistern.

Meanwhile, protected by Israeli forces, settlers from ‘Ramat Yishai’, an illegal settlement outpost constructed on Tal Rumedia in central Hebron, broke into Palestinian lands in Jabal al-Rahma area.

Forces also broke into several Hebron neighborhoods and set up roadblocks at the entrances of both Sa‘ir and Halhul as well as the northern entrance of Hebron, where they stopped and inspected vehicles with Palestinian registration plates travelling along the way and inspected passengers’ identity cards.
